The Imaginarium Of Doctor Parnassus (Terry Gilliam, 2009)

The Imaginarium Of Doctor Parnassus is a beautiful waterfall of strange and eerie images that come and bring to the spectator a feeling of inner joy and a strange, aesthetically pleasing, fulfilment. There is certainly something quite special in that movie and that special comes through the eccentric story and the fantasizing décor. The Imaginarium Of Doctor Parnassus is a film that has the characteristic of getting inside you. It's getting inside you like a virus of remedy and brings feelings of peace and grace. There is that awesome quality in that film, the quality of the images that are highly stylish and aesthetically compelling. There is a whole world in that movie. A glorious world that is been opened to the spectator and he stands there with eyes wide open admiring the creativity of the director. That world that the film depicts is a fantasy world with its own laws and rules and it comes as a sweet breeze, like a warm sensation and brings shivers of happiness and joy to the audience. I would say that the film has a style that is quite unique. You can't compare it with another movie and you can't mix it with another movie. Terry Gilliam is knows for building worlds and film universes that have a straight idiosyncratic perfume and come as a revelation of images, a revelation of style and film compositions. The frames of the movie, the setting of the movie is like a big painting that is ready to be explored and digested. The more you watch the movie, the more you are been taken by this world, the more you feel that you are been transferred to another reality, to another dimension. A dimension with vivid colours, strange objects, weird people and lots of things that exceed the human language and stay only visual achievements.
The Imaginarium Of Doctor Parnassus is a movie that will take you far away. When the film ends you will have reached a place that lies far beyond you imagination. You will be hypnotized and intoxicated. Because that movie has that characteristic of bringing the audience to a state of utter joy. A strange and eccentric euphoria that comes from your stomach and then goes to your brain and to your soul. It's like a thousand joints are been smoked instantly. It's like an unknown psychedelic substance penetrates your body. There is that sweet sensation that you are left with nothing and that you are free and open to move into tubes of highly vibrant creativity, tubes that open a big hole inside your soul and feed that hole with images, emotions and statements. The Imaginarium Of Doctor Parnassus is an experience, an experience that you take like is some kind of a psychotherapy for your mind, because that movie goes in your inner self and makes a big noise there, it moves things, it shatters things, it conducts things, it manufactures things, it takes your perception and alters it to the extend of having new eyes after the screening. The Imaginarium Of Doctor Parnassus is a movie that has powder and ink in its hands. And it paints reality in a way that is like fucking Rembrandt rose from his grave and started painting like a lunatic with all the colours in his hands. The Imaginarium Of Doctor Parnassus is a drug and not simply a movie.
