From Dusk Till Dawn (Robert Rodriguez, 1996)

Well this film, written by Quentin Tarantino, is something that you 'd die for. And you 'd die for it because the film clearly doesn't know what type of movie is. It begins as a crime film and then all of the sudden, out of the blue... there are vampires that are roaming the place. Really that idea was superb. It was one in a fucking million. A crime movie turned into a vampire film. But beyond the surprise, the cleverness and the wittiness of the movie, the film is really so endlessly fun to watch. And you know the word "fun" is somehow a guilty word, at least it is in Greece when we are talking about art, but truth says that making a real fun movie, a movie that you love to watch over and over again and you never get bored of it, it's definitely not an easy thing to do and it is by all means a righteous thing to do. From Dusk Till Dawn has that magical finger and it touches you and you suddenly wake the fuck up. You wake up from your boredom and sleepwalking and you follow the story and the absolutely hilarious scenes of the film like a fucking drug addict. That takes a lot of talent to achieve. That takes a lot of balls to make it. That takes a filmmaker who is ready to get his hands really dirty and play with the genres, play with the self-satirizing humour and not leave anything standing.
Robert Rodriguez is definitely the right man for that job. His humour is magnificent, his satire is awesome and his talent behind the camera is indisputable. There is no doubt that From Dusk Till Dawn is one of the instantly cult movies. It's made for being a cult movie. It's made for being a movie that you think about and you have that stupid smile on your face, like someone has reminded you something incredibly funny and nice. From Dusk Till Dawn is a film that you watch with pizza and joints. It's a film that you show your girlfriend before you have sex. It's a film that you give to your mother in order to make her understand why you love movies so much. It's a movie that defines all comments, it's a movie that defines evil and bad karma, it's a movie that speaks its own idiosyncratic words and it's a movie that you love to love. You love to have somewhere where you can see the fucking DVD, so every time you see it, you feel happy again and thrilled that this movie really exists.
